Superior Hiking Trail Thru-Hike: Day 7

Took our time getting ready today after sleeping in until 7:30. I packed up my food and pack.

We went back to the coffee place and got a waffle, put ice cream on it and salted butter. It was amazing.

Tried to swing by the Superior Hiking Trail Association (SHTA) office but it's closed except Mondays, Thursdays and maybe Sat/Sun? Looked in the completion trail register and saw Sphagnum PI had signed it. I can't imagine there's more than one Sphagnum PI?

Bugs and Condensation

Waring my poncho and rain paints today, the trail was infinitely more bearable. Even just having my poncho over my pack was a big helpβ€”in fact, I didn't wear ANY deet and only got a mosquito bite while I was filling water after already stopping for the day.

Now that I'm in the tent journaling and have to pee, there are, oh, about sixty buzzing betw2een the rainfly and the tent. Also, yeah, I put the rainfly on even thought he sky is this beautiful clear blue (and forecast to stay that way). but the tent was getting a lot of condensation, so I decided to at least try to see if adding the fly would help mitigate that. It kind of seems to be? At any rate, it was getting cold and the rainfly helps so, so much with the temperature.

I seriously kind of hate having the rainfly on thought because then I can't see ANYTHING outside and think fucking everything sounds like a rodent.

I have to pee. Going to brave the swarm.

Back in the Tent

That actually worked out! I think I waited long enough that the temperature dropped and the cold blooded motherfuckers are asleep!

Ok but for real I heard a huge splash of something into the river and my brain immediately goes to something jumping in the river so it can swim over and eat me. Which really, more than anything, probably means I just need to put earplugs in.

Also I looked up my route for tomorrow and it kind of looks like I could make it to Cove Point?

Also, I didn't have a meal I just had snack for dinner. Don't get me wrong it was delicious but my stomach is making all sorts of fucked up noises.

Ok going to try and sleep now.
