I am a carpenter and designer, living in a small island community on the largest freshwater lake in the world. I am deeply invested in disrupting the cycle of intergenerational trauma in my own lineage and my communities. I am more interested in the exploration of questions than the proving of answers.

Superior Hiking Trail Thru-Hike: Day 3

Chocolate and a High Powered Washer

It's a little cooler here at Bagley. I got my resupply easily from Ella who dropped it at the Bagley Nature Center learning building. I ate one of my heavier meals for dinner—Salmon and a side of collard greens with ghee and garlic powder and soy sauce. Also went to the grocery store for some glorious chocolate.

Used the super high-powered faucet at the campground to wash off my bloody shorts that yes, I bled all the way through today. There was nothing to be done about it so I just had blood on my legs and so much on my black shorts that in good lighting you could absolutely see it.

I kept playing this scenario in my head where someone tells me or asks me about it and I just react 'well, yeah, what do you want me to do about it. It's blood. I have my period. I'm hiking.’ ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Sandwich in a Hurricane

Canal Park was delicious, I got my sandwich at Northern Waters and headed out to eat it in the perfect 70F sunny weather, on the grass of the lake walk. I had a bout of amnesia and completely forgot that sitting at the lake walk is like sitting in a hurricane so spent much more time keeping my sandwich from flying away than actually eating it.

Prior to the sandwich I walked straight through a very well-labeled section of fresh paint and proceeded to create paint footprints for the next tenth of a mile.

After Canal it was straight up hill through gorgeous Chester Bowl and Lester Park. Duluth has been an absolute delight to walk through today. I’m bummed that so many people skip this section.
