I am a carpenter and designer, living in a small island community on the largest freshwater lake in the world. I am deeply invested in disrupting the cycle of intergenerational trauma in my own lineage and my communities. I am more interested in the exploration of questions than the proving of answers.

Onto the Oregon Trail

The Road Out of Seiad Valley to OREGON!
Oregon/California Border to Mile 1691.1
Pacific Crest Trail Thru-Hike: Day 102

Things to remember from today:

  • Dad mailed Fish Lake resupply today, has to 3-day it for $97 to get it there in time. The fires are making resupply unpredictable and last-minute.

  • All of Sisters Wilderness is now closed, a 30-mile trail closure that requires a 55-mile road walk to get around.

  • Denise wants to meet up, said she would love to host us in her tiny house in Corvallis and we could see the coast if we wanted to get off trail and wait out the fires.

  • Hungover this morning from Seiad Valley beer. Had a shared hungover moment resting by a waterfall with Vice and Boathouse.

  • Man, we moved slow today. No idea how we managed to pull a 30-mile day.

  • We’re in Oregon! I signed the border register “Get me out of here!!” God damn it feels good to be in a new state.

  • Ashland tomorrow!

  • Smoke was making jet-stream patterns in the sky; sun was bright red or magenta when it set.

  • Heard about a reroute to follow the Deschutes river all the way to the Colombia River Gorge, I saw it posted on FB yesterday and can’t for the life of me find it anywhere now. It avoided/covered all fire closures in Oregon. I’m hoping it’s real. There is hardly any trail left in Oregon that’s still open and the time do decide if we’ll skip it or road walk is coming up real soon.

We started the Sierra June 15th. We finished the Sierra July 15th. We finished California August 15th. What will happen on September 15th?
